Our wonderful Stirchley neighbours Artefact are hosting us for this special Pop-Up Picture.

Made in 1932, by legendary Dudley director James Whale (Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein), The Old Dark House was not well-received at the time and was withdrawn from circulation after Universal lost the rights to JB Priestly’s novel. It was then known as a ‘lost film’ for many years until it was recovered by a colleague of Whale’s and restored by George Eastman House. It has since been re-evaluated and deemed a cult classic and one of James Whale’s most significant works.

Set in Wales, between the first and second world wars, The Old Dark House follows five travellers who seek shelter from a violent storm in a decaying country house, home of the eccentric Femm family.

A note about drinks…

As you might know, SOC is a Bring-Your-Own cinema so feel free to bring snacks, popcorn, or takeaways. And usually we encourage you to bring your own booze too. This time, however, we have our very own bar! Artefact will be serving alcohol, teas and coffees, and soft drinks and we’d love it if you sampled their tasty delights!
