A Man Called Otto (15) with BrumYODO

  • Stirchley Baths 2-4 Bournville Lane Birmingham, England, B30 2JT United Kingdom (map)
You’re really bad at dying, you know that?
— Marisol

Stirchley Open Cinema is very proud to be supporting BrumYODO's screening of A MAN CALLED OTTO, as part of their A Matter of Life & Death Festival.

A Man Called Otto is a comical, heartfelt, and moving drama based on the No.1 New York Times bestseller. Otto Anderson is a grump who no longer sees purpose in his life following the loss of his wife. Otto is ready to end it all, but his final exit plans are interrupted when a lively young family moves in next door.

BrumYODO are a small Birmingham CIC made up of local people (including artists, palliative care professionals, community & youth workers, undertakers, academics and generally all-round interesting people) who have a vision of a society which talks openly and honestly about death & grief. They believe talking openly about death helps us prepare for dying and loss, and thereby makes living easier. They design and create safespaces for conversations through collaboration, and deliver a range of public events around these themes.

A Matter of Life & Death Festival is an annual Festival that BrumYODO organises every May to coincide with "Dying Matters Awareness" week. The ground-breaking festival in Birmingham takes place across a wide range of venues from Tattoo Studios to Libraries, from Pubs to Undertakers, Country Parks to Art Galleries and is coming to Stirchley Baths with a film night showing "A Man called Otto". The film is perfect for AMOLAD as it explores themes of grief, resilience, the importance of community and finding new purpose in life and does it all with humour and compassion.
